Introducing: Kalie

здравствуйтеMy name is Kalie, but everyone calls me K . I’m a junior studying International Affairs and Russian, and when I have the time to read something other than articles about game theory or “verbs of motion in the Russian language,” I love a good adventure somewhere far, far away. Think the Shire or the 600th floor of the Empire State Building. In a few months, I will be embarking on my own adventure with an amazing team of people. For me, this trip has been three years in the making…better late than never, right? I’m not sure who was in the preparation process – me or Russia. 🙂 I am a Southern California native who constantly craves bonzai bowls and In-N-Out (typical, I know). I’ve learned to space out my doses over the course of 2-3 months – and not by choice. My usual food items include coffee and some sort of chips and salsa. I’ve also had a thing for chocolate chip oatmeal lately.

Although Russian food is quite different than what I’m used to, I am beyond excited and blessed to be going. I can’t wait to be serving in such a beautiful country with three awesome teammates.

Anyway, welcome. I can’t begin to tell you how exciting, exhausting, and wonderful these next few months are going to be. Here we go.

By the way, here is my favorite Russian cartoon:

Thaddaeus, First post!

Здравствуйте и добрый день! Hello and good day!

My name is Thaddaeus Austin and I am incredibly honored to be a part of the Russian Sprint team. I am a Sophomore here at Seattle Pacific University and am currently working towards a Nursing, Russian double major. I love to read pretty much anything but have a soft spot for Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit and the Silmarillion by Tolkien. I have wanted to help in some way with world missions since i was young and Sprint has provided me with incredible resources and excellent team members. Together we will be working to spread God’s love to those that need it. Working with the orphans, the sick, and weary is what I have been called to do.

Psalm 82:3-4: Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

This is a verse that has weighed heavily on my heart and now that I know I will be turning my good intentions into real actions my heart rejoices. Thanks for reading and for any support you give us, whether it be prayer, money or just keeping us in your thoughts.

God bless!

First Post – McKenzie

Hey Everyone!

My name is McKenzie Schneider and I’m currently a freshman at Seattle Pacific University. Lucky for me, college has started out on a good note. Here at Seattle Pacific I plan on majoring in International Relations and minoring in  Latin American studies. School has been great at providing me with opportunities to expand on my passions wether it be through clubs ( SALSA, SPRINT,  A.C.E. Cultural Exchange, In Context, and Intramurals) or the expected and never-ending school work.   One club in particular that I couldn’t be more excited for is SPRINT. I’m looking forward to the Russia trip and the preparation process has been keeping me busy whether it be through renewing my passport or trying to sell pies.  The day of retreat was an exhausting one but an ever so enriching experience. It was a great way to get an idea of what Russia would be like with the team. For instance, we all are fans of ” How I Met Your Mother”  and we all didn’t flinch to try the mystery food ( durian) and one member in particular ( Thaddaeus) even asked for seconds! Well I shall keep you  posted on the progress and if you have anything you would like for me to expand on feel free to let me know!

Till next time,

Introducing: Krista

My name is Krista Sherman. I am a sophomore here at SPU, and I am studying psychology. As you probably already know, I am on the Russia SPRINT team, and I could not be any more excited! I LOVE mission work and children, and I must say my team is pretty awesome as well. We had such a great time at retreat, and we learned how to work well with each other!

I am really looking forward to this entire SPRINT process, and I can not wait to see how God’s work  comes to fruition.

I was going to create a cool poll, but I think I will leave that for another time. I posted my favorite song instead.
